Jo Nesbø is fast becoming one of my favourite authors and Harry Hole one of favourite detective protagonists. The Redeemer is #6 in the Harry Hole thrillers and the fourth in the Oslo sequence. The Redeemer was edgy, fast paced, layered and complex and is probably my favourite of the 6 books that I have devoured. With its shrewdly vertiginous narrative, acid-etched characters, and white-hot pace, The Redeemer is resounding proof of Jo Nesbø's standing as one of the best crime writers of our time. It has less of the grand, historical plotline than The Redbreast, and the three-novel Tom Waaler plot ended with a previous novel (ostensibly), but The Redeemer has an elegant structure, considerable humor, and a zig-zagging story that continually loops back on itself.
